Strawberry Festival

Strawberry Festival is just around the corner! Don't forget to mark your calendars for June 1st and join us from 10am-1pm at the Village Mill Pool Parking Lot for lots of fun and festivities. We are still in need of donations for the auction and raffle. Great items would be event tickets, vacation houses, gift cards, products or services that you or someone you know can offer, golf rounds, etc. Don't forget to look through your gift closet for smaller value items, too, and be on the look out for great bargains you can pick up to donate. Donations can be dropped off at Erin's home, 1952 Peeler Rd., or Sheila's home, 4863 Village Creek Dr.

BOOK SALE
Donations of books, board games, books on tape, CDs, and DVDs (please no VHS) can be dropped off with Sheila Bartholomew at 4720 Olde Village Lane. Please be sure all pieces are with any games.

KIDS' MARKET
Sarah Smith is looking for Village Mill kids ages 9 and older (if under 9, a parent must assist you) to run a game or craft making booth! We will provide the place for you to set up and you KEEP THE MONEY YOU MAKE!

Some ideas: Mini putt, bowling games, lollipop tree, shaving cream pies, jewelry making, strawberry tee shirt making with fabric paint, water balloon toss games. Or a new game or craft that's fun and creative!

Here's how it works: The cost to participate is $5.00 per booth for your space. (Pay Sarah Smith prior to your kids market game opening.) You are responsible for: Setting up by 9:30am and taking down your game/craft booth, staffing your booth from 10am-1pm, providing any tables needed, materials and prizes for your game or craft, determining how much to charge, providing your own cash box and money to make change, and providing your own sign. Don't forget tape & markers.

To sign up, go to:
www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0B48A5A723A02-strawberry. Please List your name & game or craft name in the comment section. Please email questions to Sarah Smith at: sarahsmith7319@bellsouth.net You will be emailed if your game is a duplicate entry on SignUpGenius.

BAKE SALE
Bakers and foodies, don't forget to support the bake sale! Items can be sold whole (cakes, pies, trays of cookies, etc.) or as individual items (cookies, brownies). Please wrap and package your items accordingly, and it is always helpful to include a label if your items contain any common allergens, especially nuts or dairy. Bring your donations to the parking lot area by 9:30am on the day of the event, and be mindful to bring items that won't need refrigeration.

VOLUNTEERS
If anyone is interested in volunteering some of their time on the day of Strawberry Festival, please visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090D49A9A72DAA8-volunteers to sign up. Some of the areas still needing volunteers are: food sales, bounce house/dunk tank supervision, ticket table and set up/clean up.

Strawberry Festival is Village Mill's big annual fundraiser and the money raised this year will go toward the cost of new signs for the entrances, which are badly needed. Let's all help to make the event a great success! And if you still need help getting in the mood for strawberries and summer fun, check out Erin's Strawberry Pinterest Board at http://pinterest.com/ebarrettallen/strawberry. We can't wait to see everyone in June!

4th of July Veterans Bows Honor Our Veterans

The time is approaching for you to honor family members who have served or are now serving in the military. This has been a Village Mill tradition for many years. Bows should be displayed on mailboxes from June 28th through July 5th.

Take a moment and reflect on who you would like to honor if you yourself have not served. A grandfather who served in World War II? An uncle who was drafted after graduation from high school? A great aunt who served as a nurse in Korea? If you wish to honor more than one person, two bows will fit on most mailboxes.

The Veterans Bows are $5 and color coded by branch of service: Green for Army, red for Marine Corps, dark blue for Navy or Coast Guard and light blue for Air Force. All bows contain yellow ribbon, the international color for peace.

There will be a booth set up to sell Veterans Bows at the Strawberry Festival on June 1st from 10am-1pm. You can also contact Julian Black at 770-396-5997 to order your bows early.

Village Mill Military Bow History: Our long time neighbor, Bob Keesee, started and managed this program for a number of years. Bob passed away in 2011 and Julian Black accepted the honor to continue this tradition. Our neighbor, Susan West, has been the expert Veterans Bow maker for a number of years. Thank you Susan for the nice work.
